In Brief... Assistant Staff Officer - Planning

 Brief Description:

Processes planning applications and all related matters and records progress and deals with enquiries.

The Local Authorities around Ireland control planning permission for building and development within their own local area. Local Authorities include corporations and county councils. The planning process includes an administrative side and it is within this area that the Assistant Staff Office for Planning works.

He or she receives and processes planning applications made by members of the public. The Assistant Staff Officer may be dealing with enquiries from the public on how the planning process works. They may also be found working directly with developers, updating them on the current progress of their application.

The work includes administrative, secretarial and organisational skills. Within the various Local Authorities there are usually good opportunities for career advancement to higher grades of Officer.
