Qualifications required?

Level 9 Degree

Typical entry routes:

The education and training of pharmacy students consists of a five-year programme, which must include a minimum of six months’ practical training placement under the supervision of a tutor pharmacist. Currently, the five-year programme in Ireland consists of a PSI (Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland) accredited four-year Bachelor degree programme in a school of pharmacy, followed by a one-year Internship Programme which results in the award of a level 9 Masters degree.

There are currently three pharmacy degree courses in Ireland which are accredited by PSI.

These are the courses provided by Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

These four-year courses lead to the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) or Bachelor of Pharmacy. Students who have passed the final examinations of a PSI-accredited honours Bachelor degree course in pharmacy are then eligible to apply to complete the National Pharmacy Internship Programme.

Following successful completion of all components of the National Pharmacy Internship Programme, which comprises of (i) the in-service practical training programme and (ii) the Professional Registration Programme, a student is then eligible to apply to the PSI for registration as a pharmacist.
