In Brief... Carpenter / Joiner

 Brief Description:

Uses hand tools and cutting machines to make fittings and furniture out of wood.

Carpenters and Joiners work in many different areas of the building and craft industries'. They work on building sites laying floorboards and fitting doors and windows. They work in workshops making tables and chairs. And they work in craft shops designing and making all sorts of ornaments out of wood.

They use power tools, nails, hammers and saws. They join and glue pieces of wood together using special techniques that hide the join. A Carpenter / Joiner will design, measure, shape and create almost anything that you need. They use many different types of wood to do this.

A good attention to detail and a willingness to work hard and carefully with your hands is needed. Carpentry is a skill that will take time and study to learn and appreciate.
