Training in accountancy and tax is without a doubt an advantage be that in third level or postgraduate education. There are however many people in tax who come from engineering or science backgrounds.
The common characteristic, however, is adeptness for problem solving and analytical exercises. Finally, you hear it time and time again but an ability to work as part of a team is paramount to having a successful career in the area of accountancy and tax. You learn from those around you and as you progress up the ranks you must rely on those below you more and more.
