Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.
We asked Karl Curran from Insurance to give some advice for people considering this job:
|I would highly recommend this job but I’d say to start taking insurance exams as soon as possible and get them done while you’re young.
I’d also recommend talking to as many people in the industry to see what area of insurance you want to go into i.e. Insurer, Broker, Loss Adjuster etc. – they’re very different!

Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).
Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.
Undergraduate awards are awarded by the HETAC or Higher Education Institutes.
3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.
Students study a common course for the first two years. Towards the end of the second year, students specialise in a particular engineering field. Students should be prepared to work very hard, especially in the first two years.

|Marie O'Donovan studied Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering in Trinity College, which is a 4 year honors degree course. She is now working as an Environmental Officer for Roadstone Provinces Ltd., working in the south of the country. She has recently been involved in achieving company wide accreditation of the ISO 14001, an Environmental Management System.|

|Kerrie works as a Process Engineer for Intel in their Leixlip manufacturing facility. She choose to study Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Trinity College, a course she highly recommends. After three and a half years working as a Mechanical Engineer, she took up her current position as Process Engineer.|
