Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.
We asked Liam Doyle from Failte Ireland to give some advice for people considering this job:
|Don’t give up easily, because there’ll be many obstacles or roadblocks placed in your way. If you enjoy challenges, you’ll enjoy the hotel industry. It is physically and mentally very challenging but also extraordinarily rewarding, a lot more than most other industries, providing you’re willing to stay the course!|

Postgraduate courses allow learners to develop their knowledge of a subject to the maximum levels possible, or develop specific skills and expertise in addition to their undergraduate area of study.
Masters degrees and post-graduate diplomas are awarded at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications. Master degrees in Ireland typically last one (taught courses) or two (research based) years, while Postgraduate diplomas are typically one year.
Doctoral and higher doctorate awards are awarded at Level 10 on the NFQ, and may last several years.
Postgraduate awards are much sought after in the workplace, as candidates have typically developed advanced analytical and systems skills in their chosen career area. Occupations often involve coordinating, training, supervising, or managing the activities of others to accomplish goals. Examples include librarians, lawyers, many medical specialists, wildlife biologists, school psychologists, treasurers, and most scientists.
Pharmacy is the study of the many features of drugs, including their design, manufacture, formulation into a medicine and how they work in the body. This course also provides the training to ensure that medicines are used safely and rationally to improve the lives of patients. From 2015 onwards, this is a 5 year programme leading to an MPharm (Pharmacy) Level 9 Degree. Year 5 is NOT funded under the HEA Free Fees Initiative - candidates will be liable for tuition fees.
