Certificates at this level are typically awarded for two years of full-time study after the leaving certificate or equivalent. Skills developed are mostly technical and vocationally specific, i.e. are focused on a specific career sector. National apprenticeships programmes are included in thhis level.
Awards at this level recognised by the National Framework of Qualifications may lead to 3rd level progression opportunities.
Qualifications at this level prepare for occupations that involve using the skills and knowledge learned alongside existing workers in 'real world' environments. Examples include restaurant managers, electricians, engineering technicians, legal secretaries, hairdressers, and web developers.

The level 6 Certificate in Legal Studies aims to equip students with foundation knowledge of the concepts and principles pertaining to the core areas of Irish Law.
Students will undertake a range of skills based subjects in addition to the legal subjects including, IT Skills, Personal and Career Development, and learning and Research Skills. Additionally, students will have a compulsory Work Placement module to place them in a strong position if they move into the work force.

Students may use this course to help them enter a career as a legal secretary. A qualified Legal Secretary is an invaluable asset to a Law Firm. A Legal Secretary combines high levels of office administration skills with the specific knowledge and understanding required to deal effectively with legal communications and documentation. The legal secretary will be familiar with common types of legal documentation found in any law firm and will possess an insight into the structure and role of the Irish Court system.
