We asked Michelle Ryan from Failte Ireland to give some advice for people considering this job:
|Firstly it is very important that you get a third level education as this is a requirement in most hotels for a job in sales. This is the most important step in working in hotel sales. You should gain as much experience within the industry which I found very beneficial.|

Certificates at this level are typically awarded for two years of full-time study after the leaving certificate or equivalent. Skills developed are mostly technical and vocationally specific, i.e. are focused on a specific career sector. National apprenticeships programmes are included in thhis level.
Awards at this level recognised by the National Framework of Qualifications may lead to 3rd level progression opportunities.
Qualifications at this level prepare for occupations that involve using the skills and knowledge learned alongside existing workers in 'real world' environments. Examples include restaurant managers, electricians, engineering technicians, legal secretaries, hairdressers, and web developers.
Applied biology involves the growing of organisms to obtain new substances, many of which are useful as food, fuel and medicines.
Applied chemistry involves using chemical substances and reactions to solve practical problems.
After an initial foundation year, students specialise in either applied biology or applied chemistry. There is an emphasis on practical skills, with the course being equally divided between lab work and lectures.

Employment as assistant in research and development and/or work at management/supervisory level in such areas as the chemical and medical devices sector, pharmaceutical cosmetics, food and agrochemicals and in contract testing, companies involved with food and drink, dyestuffs, technicians for lab and process work.
