To work as a forester in Coillte you need to complete a degree/diploma in forestry. A keen interest in forestry and forest related businesses is essential. Strong business and IT skills are also important. This job is for someone who is an outdoor person, who loves nature, enjoys walking and doesn’t mind the weather. A driving licence is very helpful as you travel a lot.

You shouldn’t be afraid of a change as being a forester is a continuous learning process. This job is not about quick rewards. The life span of the forest is at least 40 years and your knowledge, confidence and work experience comes with years. And although it sounds very challenging, this job offers very good career opportunities, possibility of further education, great working conditions and financial stability.

Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).

Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.

Undergraduate awards are awarded by the HETAC or Higher Education Institutes.

3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others.
