Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.

We asked Peter Clifford from An Garda Síochána to give some advice for people considering this job:

To get physically fit for the entrance tests and also for the demanding physical nature of the job. Also I would tell people to enjoy themselves before they join as it’s a job for at least 30 years.

I would also informl people about the variety of avenues people can get into when they have completed their training. There really is a career for every person regardless of where their interests lie. There is so many specialised units and prospects.

Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

Summary... header image

Students take Theology in the Faculty of Theology in the Pontifical University; for the Arts component they follow the regular BA courses of the Faculties at Maynooth University.

The Theology course aims to provide students with a solid intellectual formation in Theology. The scope of the course is wide, covering the range of the main theological subjects, so that students are introduced both to the breadth of the Christian tradition and to the variety of questions raised for Theology at the present time. Students of the course should develop a well-informed understanding and a deep personal appropriation of the Christian faith.

The Arts subjects offer students the opportunity both to broaden and deepen their knowledge of subjects they have already studied and to embark on new subjects of study. The variety of disciplines available is part of the richness of the Arts, but what all the subjects have in common is that each, in its different way, requires students to consider and reassess the values by which society operates in the modern world.
