From 2009, students must achieve a minimum of 480 points, and meet the minimum subject requirements for medicine in the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate, and complete a required admissions test. This is now a restricted course therefore you must apply to CAO by the 1st of Feb.
The first year is a foundation year, covering biology, chemistry, physics and clinical science. Students then spend five years in two broad phases: pre-clinical and clinical study. Studies include patient-based teaching in small groups where students learn the necessary skills under the tuition of highly qualified clinical tutors.
