Classics is about the origins of our cultural identity, tracing literature, art and social life from their beginnings in the ancient Near East through Greek and Roman antiquity and on to the diversification of Christian Europe in the Middle Ages. There are three main strands to the subject: languages, the history of ideas and visual art.
As part of an Arts degree, this subject is one of four subjects you choose in first year. In second and third year you continue with two of the subjects taken in First Arts. It may be possible to take an extra year studying abroad.
