First Year Art and Design at NCAD gives you options for entry into many different worlds. It is a route to study Fine Art which includes Media, Painting, Print and Sculpture. It is also a gateway to studying Design in Ceramics & Glass, Fashion, Jewellery & Metalwork, Textiles and Visual Communication.

Graduates of this course have pursued careers as self-employed designers, makers or applied artists setting up their own workshops. Fashion graduates go into many different areas of the fashion business. Graduates in embroidered, printed or woven textiles may pursue careers in studio based production, design and manufacture, free-lance design work in both general and specialist areas, design in industry or as design consultants in the retail sector. Visual communication graduates are employed by design consultants, book and magazine publishers, multimedia and web design companies, advertising and publicity agents and as in-house designers.
