Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.
We asked Angie O'Keeffe from Hewlett-Packard to give some advice for people considering this job:
|Don't be afraid to speak out, but have your data to support your argument. Good problem solving skills will help but you don't have to be an expert in every area but get to the people who do know. Most people love to transfer their knowledge especially when the request for information is genuine. Your own interest level will determine the kind of response you get, you'll build your networks this way. Get your hands dirty, never think that some part of the job is below you, you'll get two invaluable things from this - knowledge, you'll learn things that others would overlook and you'll have a better understanding of processes and your products|

Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).
Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.
Undergraduate awards are awarded by the HETAC or Higher Education Institutes.
3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.
Through the study of Tourism Marketing students learn about peoples travel experiences, get reactions to packages and events, and measure their level of satisfaction
This course offers an academic foundation in marketing, as applied to the context of national and international tourism sectors. Its strong focus on marketing is supportive of a broad business and management perspective, directed at the tourism industry.

The programme is designed to enable students gain employment in challenging graduate level positions in tourism sales and marketing roles.
Graduates with marketing competence can expect to find employment in the marketing function of a variety of tourism enterprises including tourism co-operatives, national and regional tourism organisations, hotels, visitor centres (domestic and international) self-employment, project management, technology management, community development, public sector support and financial institutions.
In addition, there are opportunities for graduates in consultancy, research and postgraduate education.
