Mechanical engineering is concerned with the design, maintenance and development of machines and equipment, ranging from jet engines to minute instruments used in medicine and surgery.

After an introductory first year, students begin practical work. There 24 to 27 hours of lectures, tutorials and lab work each week. In the final year, the student can specialise in Thermofluids or Mechanics of Solids by choosing appropriate final year electives. Industrial placement in year 3 for 6 months. Major project in final year.
