Genetics involves the study of DNA, and how physical characteristics are passed from parent to child. It is used to find links between specific genes and diseases, and to develop pest, disease, and drought resistant plants.
During the first year, students take a common course in science, before beginning with genetics, biochemistry of the cell, and microbiology.
