Philosophy is the discipline of questioning topics such as existence, truth, the human mind, and knowledge, using reasoned argument.
Economics is a social science which studies the distribution of resources in society, in the form of goods, services, and labour. It covers topics such as how goods are priced, how banks function, and how consumers behave in different markets. (It is not necessary to have taken economics or honours maths for the Leaving Cert.)
Sociology involves the study of groups, organisations and societies and how people interact within these settings.
Political science is the study of political behaviour, which examines the acquisition and application of power.
Students study all four subjects in their first year, three during their second year, two for their third year, and either one or two during the final year.
