Civil engineering includes the planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of structures, and altering geography to suit human needs. This may include the construction of railroads, dams, bridges, tunnels, or buildings.

Following completion of their third year of study, all engineering students undertake a five-month off campus work-based learning programme, giving them an opportunity to work on projects relevant to their course of study.
