Applied biology involves the growing of organisms to obtain new substances, many of which are useful as food, fuel and medicines.
Applied chemistry involves using chemical substances and reactions to solve practical problems.
After an initial foundation year, students specialise in either applied biology or applied chemistry. There is an emphasis on practical skills, with the course being equally divided between lab work and lectures.
