blank Course Summary... blank

Environmental science involves the study of how our environment functions and how peoples behaviour can change this functioning (for example through pollution and habitat destruction).

Students can specialise in topics such as applied ecology, earth science, plant biotechnology, geography, geology and zoology.

blank Careers or Further Progression... blank

Many students graduating with the Environmental Science/Studies degree will be seeking to put their skills to use within the industrial sector by taking responsibility for environmental monitoring, assessment or management. The multi-disciplinary nature of the subject qualifies graduates particularly well for posts of environmental officers within industry or local government, where they would take responsibility for helping their employers meet environmental obligations under national and international law.

The range of practical experience gained in several environmental disciplines over the full degree programme also makes graduates highly suitable for the growing field of environmental consultancy. Environmental consultants work in all areas of the environment, often helping assess the impact of existing and proposed developments, assessing means of minimising the environmental impacts of industrial processes and carrying out the associated monitoring of air, soil and water.
