Economics is a social science which studies the distribution of resources in society, in the form of goods, services, and labour. It covers topics such as how goods are priced, how banks function, and how consumers behave in different markets.
It is not necessary to have taken economics or honours maths for the Leaving Cert. However, a liking for thinking mathematically and working with numbers is an advantage.
