Geomatics involves mapping the earths surface through satellites, aerial photography, or land surveying; for applications such as GPS, monitoring deforestation and melting ice in the artic, and finding potential archaeological sites.
The course has a strong emphasis mathematics, science, computers, and geography. The course includes project and on-site field work during all of the years. Maths requirement for the course has changed from OB3 to OD3.

Career offers a combination of both outdoor and laboratory work. The career has many specialised fields of activity including land surveying, cartography, engineering and mine surveying, the use of satellites for positioning, and the production of computerised maps.
