Brian Cowen: Capital investment plan will boost employment

Monday, July 26, 2010

Brian Cowen: Capital investment plan will boost employmentAbout EUR39 billion is to be spent on capital investment projects, the Taoiseach will announce today (June 26th).

The Infrastructure Investment Priorities 2010-2016, which will be published later today, will detail funding for public transport, roads, schools, health facilities, the environment, energy efficiency, broadband, and research and development projects.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Taoiseach Brian Cowen said investment in infrastructure is "an investment in the future of the Irish people".

"I believe this is exactly the type of stimulus that the economy needs to help rebuild confidence and accelerate economic recovery. It will not only greatly improve the lives of our citizens, it will help to create jobs now and to sustain jobs for the future," Mr Cowen added.

Earlier this month, the Taoiseach said agriculture will play a key part in the restructuring of the economy. He was speaking at the publication of the Food Harvest 2020 report, when he suggested that the agri-food sector could create up to 4,000 jobs.ADNFCR-2470-ID-19906684-ADNFCR
