Professional employment opportunities 'increased in June'
Thursday, July 22, 2010
The number of professional employment opportunities available in Ireland grew by 38 per cent in June compared to the same month last year, according to a new survey.
Premier Group's Irish Employment Monitor, which tracks the number of candidates and job vacancies registering with its network of offices on a month-by-month basis, also found that there are now more people looking for work.
The number of candidates on its books increased from 8,070 in June last year to 12,480 last month, while there were 5,669 vacancies in June 2010, compared to 4,117 12 months ago.
Brian Murphy, chief executive officer of Premier Group in Ireland, said the figures should give "hope that perhaps the worst is behind us and indicate that some confidence has returned to the jobs market and businesses are taking a more positive approach to hiring".
According to the Central Statistics Office, the standardised unemployment rate in June was 13.4 per cent.

What are your Career Interests?
Realist
Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.
Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.
