Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction.

I would advise anybody wishing to pursue a career as a Midwife to focus on having science subjects in their Leaving Certificate. The basic entrance requirements are high at the moment so a good Leaving Certificate is essential (unless applying as a mature applicant).

To be accepted onto a training course you have to do an interview where they will determine whether you are suitable for the job or not. In the interview I would advise you to relax and to be yourself, answer honestly and do not be afraid to promote yourself.

The interviewers are looking for intellegent, hard working, nice people who are genuinely interested in being with women in pregnancy and labour. They are looking for students who have a basic understanding as to what this entails.

Administrative people are interested in work that offers security and a sense of being part of a larger process. They may be at their best operating under supervisors who give clear guidelines, and performing routine tasks in a methodical and reliable way.

They tend to enjoy clerical and most forms of office work, where they perform essential administrative duties. They often form the backbone of large and small organisations alike. They may enjoy being in charge of office filing systems, and using computers and other office equipment to keep things running smoothly. They usually like routine work hours and prefer comfortable indoor workplaces.

25 New Jobs with TransferMate

Global payments company TransferMate have announced today that it is hiring 25 new employees, doubling the number it had initially planned to recruit this year.

In January, the company announced that it would be creating 25 new roles at its Kilkenny HQ. Today, it said these positions were filled by April and that it is now starting a second round of recruitment for an additional 25 people to deal with its ongoing growth in Ireland and overseas.

The recruitment process is starting with immediate effect. Interested applicants can apply via the company’s career page here. There are currently a number of vacancies for enthusiastic and confident Sales Executives

All of the 25 positions will be Irish-based, dealing with TransferMate’s clients all over the world. The company said additional positions will also open up in multiple cities overseas. It said it is primarily looking to fill in-house and field-based sales roles.

“We currently have a team of over 100 people,” commented managing director, Barry Dowling. “While 70pc work a 9-5 week dealing with clients in the Irish, UK and European markets, the remainder are tasked with looking after our clients in the US, Canadian and Australasian markets. So we have people working around the clock.”
