850 jobs are expected to be created by companies operating from a planned state-of-the-art logistics and industrial hub to be developed in Baldonnell, Co Dublin by Mountpark Logistics EU.
As well as 120 jobs during the construction phase, there will be up to 150 additional ancillary services jobs.
Overall the scheme could deliver 1,000 jobs to South Dublin according to Phillip O'Callaghan, of Mountpark who commented: "We are delighted to have acquired this ideally located site in Baldonnell and believe that the development will provide a wide range of job opportunities and an economic boost to the area. "We look forward to developing high quality logistics units in South County Dublin for Irish and International businesses."
Mountpark Logistics EU, a joint venture between UK-based Mountpark and the USAA Real Company of America, recently bought the site and has announced plans invest €40m in developing the hub. Construction is due to start in late 2015.
Mountpark Logistics EU specialises in building logistics centres. The company was formed in 2014 and is currently engaged in projects in the UK, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
The announcement follows a recent report from the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs that the Freight Transport, Distribution and Logistics sector will need up to 15,500 extra skilled workers to 2020.
