It is a very rewarding but also extremely challenging job. It requires a lot of resilience, mental strength, patience and compassion. It means seeing people at their worst in the most difficult circumstances.

It involves making difficult decisions, which will have life changing consequences for the offenders. If you think you have the ability to handle all that, it is a truly great job with amazing opportunities.

The Social person's interests focus on some aspect of those people in their environment. In all cases the social person enjoys the personal contact of other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.

Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people, and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

Shannon-based chemistry company Reagecon is targeting a significant expansion of its export business, hoping to hit €50m by 2020 and hiring 25 people over the next two years.

The recruitment drive is for a total of 40 people, with 15 vacancies filled to date.

The roles Reagecon is looking to fill are “high-value chemist positions”, adding to its current workforce of 96 – over half of whom are scientists.

Reagecon develops, manufactures and exports physical and chemical standards and reagents for laboratories worldwide. The company now in its 26th year in Shannon. In what John Barron, MD of the company, called “an ambitious programme of scaling”, the positions will be based at the Shannon facility:

“An investment of more than €3m in our R&D capability has further enabled us to grow our marketable product range and diversity and, as a result, expand our global customer footprint,” he said. “Since 2011, the company has spent €3m on R&D. Since 2011, the new product development continues to yield a massive output of patentable inventions, innovations, features and benefits that confers significant competitive advantage over our competitors.”
