Go for it. If you feel you may be suitable, then you probably are. An ability to not take yourself too seriously would be an advantage!

Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

EGFSN report shows Improvements in regional labour markets

There is a growing demand for labour market information that goes beyond national level.

The Regional Labour Markets Bulletin is an annual report produced by the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN) which identifies variations in skills supply and demand across 8 regions (Border, Dublin, Mid East, Mid-West, Midland, South East, South West and West).

The latest edition of the report highlights regional differences in terms of some labour market indicators, namely participation rates, unemployment rates, and rates of employment across the regions.

The latest analysis shows improvements in the regional labour markets evidenced by the reduction in unemployment. When compared with the situation a year previously, the majority of regions reduced the number of unemployed; the rate of unemployment declined in 6 out of 8 regions.

The Regional Labour Markets Bulletin 2015 provides important data for the areas of education and training provision, career guidance and services for jobseekers.

Skills in the Hospitality Sector

A forthcoming report by the Expert Group on Future Skills Needs examines the skills needs arising within the hospitality sector in Ireland – hotels, restaurants, bars, canteens and catering – over the period to 2020.

There are over 16,000 enterprises in the hospitality-related accommodation and food services sector in Ireland. The hospitality sector is one of the most important employment services sectors in the Irish economy, and there is significant potential for future expansion.

The sector is estimated to directly employ close to 158,000 persons and makes a valuable contribution to regional and local economies. A main challenge for the industry is to provide appropriate training and education and career paths and to ensure that there will be the right supply of skills in terms of quantity, quality and diversity, to help drive domestic hospitality sector business and employment growth.

The report is scheduled to be published in Q4 2015.
