A keen interest in current affairs, a willingness to travel and an acceptance that this role is a lifestyle choice are all necessary. I believe having lived abroad for a period of time and experiencing different cultures are also an advantage.

The Linguistic's interests are usually focused on ideas and information exchange. They tend to like reading a lot, and enjoy discussion about what has been said. Some will want to write about their own ideas and may follow a path towards journalism, or story writing or editing. Others will develop skills in other languages, perhaps finding work as a translator or interpreter. Most Linguistic types will enjoy the opportunity to teach or instruct people in a topic they are interested in.

200 New Jobs with DPD Ireland

Courier company DPD Ireland is to create 200 jobs as part of a €13 million expansion plan. 70 of the jobs are to be filled by Christmas.

Recruitment will be for a variety of positions including:

  • Sorting technicians
  • Drivers
  • Administrative staff

New staff members will be located at the company’s headquarters in Athlone and throughout the country. DPD said the company is doubling the size of its headquarters and sorting facility in Athlone from 50,000 to 100,000sq ft. 

DPD Ireland chief executive Brendan O’Neill commented that online shopping is dramatically increasing, with Irish consumers expecting to spend over €13 billion on ecommerce by 2020. “Our business plan reflects this change in consumer behaviour. We recently invested €1.9 million in our company’s IT scanning system which ensures that we maintain our position at the forefront of innovation in delivery technology.”
