50 Jobs announced with Kildare Lab Testing Company

EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan today officially opened the new Advanced Laboratory Testing (ALT) facility located in Newbridge, Industrial Park in Co Kildare.

ALT is an analytical testing service provider to the food industry. The company has created 50 jobs in the past 18 months, and plans to double the workforce to 100 laboratory staff this year. Most of the new positions will require qualifications at graduate level and above from third level institutions in Ireland.

Founded by Louis Ronan in 2013, Billy Coleman joined ALT in late 2014 with the goal of taking it to the next level strategically.  Coleman has founded, managed and expanded other laboratories in Ireland. A new major extension in 2014 added in excess of 3,500 sq ft its testing facility and doubled the size of the existing laboratory capacity.

Advanced Laboratory Testing (ALT)

At present, Alt is the only commercial laboratory in Ireland offering polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based rapid testing solutions for Salmonella species and Listeria species which allow for results within 24 hours.

“We are currently embarking on a major expansion programme with a view to increasing ALT’s accredited service offering across the analysis spectrum to include PCR, environmental chemistry and a significantly enhanced food chemistry service offering,” said Coleman. “This will allow the Irish food industry to use an Irish-based commercial laboratory service provider to assist in complying with new EU labelling regulations which came into force in December 2014. “This will result in significantly improved turnaround times for customers in Ireland and will lessen the need for Irish companies to use subcontract labs in the UK and mainland Europe.”
