I would advise them to ensure they enjoy working with young people. If possible try to get some teaching experience; I started out as a substitute teacher before applying for my H Dip in Education.

Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

Applied Physics - LM065

Students are given a grounding in fundamental maths, physics, computing and electronics in their first year, and then go on to focus on industrially important areas such as process technology, materials science, optics, and instrumentation. There is a work placement taken in Year 3. Students select their area of specialisation in the final year. The small class numbers may explain the very low drop out rate. Most days last from 9 to 4, with extra hours for lab work reports and projects.
