Paul Shortt, Education Profile 

What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?

For my leaving certificate I did English, Irish, Maths, French, Physics, History and Applied Maths.

Initially I decided to study Electrical and Electronic Engineering in University but changed to a Politics and Modern History Degree.

I think having a broad range of subjects in the Leaving Cert programme enables you to have a more varied choice of career paths and makes change down the road easier.

 


What is your education to date?
Diploma in Legal Studies Griffith College - Dublin NUI Higher Diploma in Computer Studies - University College Dublin NCC Diploma in Computer Studies -Institute of Public Administration National Certificate in Project Management -Institute of Public Administration BSc (Hons) Politics and Modern History - Brunel University, Middlesex  


What aspects of your education have proven most important for your job?
The main aspect of my education that has proved most important is continuance, modern careers require you to constantly take on new challenges and adapt to new skills, this requires training and upskilling. I have completed courses in computer studies, management techniques, law, mediation, negotiation skills, project management, languages et cetera to enable me to take on new roles and progress my career.  


Have you undertaken, or do you plan to undertake any further training as part of your job?
I hope to complete my diploma in legal studies next year and in the future would like to study Irish
