What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
Irish, English, Maths, German, Business, Accounting, Physics. German and Accounting influenced me the most; they were my main reasons for doing Commerce and German in college.
I liked accounting in college and school and I thought it was a natural progression then to train in an accounting practice.
What is your education to date?
Leaving Cert - 1999. College degree – Commerce and German - 2003. Masters Degree – Masters in Accounting - 2004. Chartered Accountant - 2007.
What aspects of your education have proven most important for your job?
The Institute and professional qualifications. These form the main basis for my day to day work.
Have you undertaken, or do you plan to undertake any further training as part of your job?
A new course was advertised by the ICAI last month – A diploma in Forensic Accounting. It sounded interesting and I may well look into it over the summer. This is something that Deloitte are very supportive of. They provide sponsorship for courses relevant to my career development and this also includes study days around the exam periods.
