Richelle Fallon, Education Profile

What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
I took a very broad range of Finance-related subjects in school- micro and macro economics, business math, financial planning, statistics, business law, accounting, etc.

To be honest, aside from getting my foot in the door, the subjects I took in college only gave me a very basic overview of the industry. Everything I have learned has been hands-on experience.

It is highly recommended to take the Intro to Funds Certificate, if interested in pursuing a career in Funds. The Institute of Bankers offer additional courses which most companies would encourage employees to take, and which they would compensate them for doing.

What is your education to date?
I completed a diploma in finance, and have not taken additional work-related courses. My knowledge gained, has all been through experience.

What aspects of your education have proven most important for your job?
I cannot outline any specific course(s) I took which I feel were most important, or detrimental in my career progression. Obtaining the Diploma in Finance got my foot in the door of the Industry, and from there, I have progressed with experience.

Have you undertaken, or do you plan to undertake any further training as part of your job?

I have taken internal courses, relevant to my roles, which included anti-money laundering training, introduction to fund services, compliance training, intoduction to fund accounting and team leader training.

The specialist certificate in investment fund services would be beneficial and is a course I would consider taking as it is well recognised within the industry.
