I have completed my Leaving Certificate examinations and I achieved all honours accumulating to 400 points. I did Transition Year (4th) in secondary school. It was an optional year but I thought it would stand to me as it is another year of education. I have also reached an intermediate level in my drama exams with The Irish Board of Speech and Drama.
What subjects did you take in school and how have these influenced your career path?
I took Irish, English, Maths, French, Biology, Accounting and Home Economics. I feel Honours Maths and Accounting have stood to me as I am very good with numbers and this helps in a retail environment. Honours English has helped me to articulate myself with clarity.
Have you undertaken, or do you plan to undertake any further training as part of your job?
Yes I am always looking to up skill and I would like to do training days as they arise whether they be on presentation skills, delegation skills or anything relevant to my chosen career path. I would perhaps like to come back to college in a few years and complete a Masters as I am a strong believer that knowledge is power and you can never be too educated.
What aspects of your education have proven most important for your job?
I only have the Leaving Certificate examinations completed at the moment but any education is bound to help your career path. All of my subjects combined have helped to give me a good level of general knowledge, numeric skills and clarity of expression. I have always liked mathematics and accounting and this will help me over the years with business day books, sales figures and projections.
