Company/Organisation Profile 

Engineers Ireland's STEPS programme was established in 2000 to encourage primary and post-primary students to explore the world of science and engineering. The value of the programme has been formally recognised by Government and is a key element of the national Discover Science & Engineering (DSE) programme.

STEPS works in strategic partnership with DSE to achieve its goals listed below. STEPS is managed by Engineers Ireland and is supported by the Department of Education and Skills, Science Foundation Ireland and a number of major engineering employers.


Placement Details 

Engineering Your Future is a week-long, hands-on programme for Transition Year students who have an interest in science and maths.  It is designed to introduce them to the exciting and diverse world of engineering.

The event, supported by STEPS and hosted by a number of third-level institutes throughout Ireland, offers Transition Year students the opportunity to: 

  • Gain a better understanding of the skills required of engineers and the career opportunities available to qualified engineers. 
  • Learn about the disciplines and technologies making up the exciting world of engineering. 
  • Meet engineers at various stages in their careers and hear about their experiences. 
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the diversity of engineering at third level and its subject content.
  • Experience what engineers do on a daily basis through industry visits.

Successful applicants will be identified based on a number of factors including Junior Certificate maths and science results and reasons for seeking a place on the programme.
