Social

The Social person's interests focus on interacting with the people in their environment. In all cases, the Social person enjoys the personal contact with other people in preference to the impersonal dealings with things, data and ideas found in other groups.

Many will seek out positions where there is direct contact with the public in some advisory role, whether a receptionist or a counsellor. Social people are motivated by an interest in different types of people and like diversity in their work environments. Many are drawn towards careers in the caring professions and social welfare area, whilst others prefer teaching and other 'informing' roles.

JEWELLERY: Gayle Anderson; Appleby Jewellers

Appleby Jewellers, Dublin, have dedicated more then sixty years to creating a worldwide reputation for excellence and creative jewellery design, offering renowned diamond expertise and the very best in quality and value.

My average day varies depending on the requirements of the workshop at any given time. I usually spend the morning using a computer aided design (CAD) software (Matrix) to design models of rings, both remodelling old pieces and making bespoke new designs.

The afternoon is spent at the bench doing anything from assembly of my CAD and cast models, from scratch construction, sizing rings and general repairs. Some afternoons I will meet clients in the retail shop to discuss complex designs showing them rendered CAD images and wax models of a piece they are considering.

Other tasks that I’m responsible for include running the CAD department, ordering tools and equipment, processing jobs as they arrive, pricing repair work, discussing and making decisions on jobs with the gemmology department and sales team. Every day is different and that is one of the best things about this career.
