Season’s Season’s greetings from the School of Law! I am delighted to let you know that that the Supreme Court of Ireland will be sitting in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway from 4 to 6 March, 2019. The Supreme Court is the highest court in Ireland and normally sits in the Four Courts in Dublin. The hearings at NUI Galway will be the first time the Supreme Court will sit outside of a courtroom and the first time in the West of Ireland. The Court plans to hear an appeal against the decision of An Bord Pleanála to approve the first phase of an €850 million data centre in Athenry. To mark this momentous occasion, the School of Law will organise a number of public events involving our lecturers and judges of the Supreme Court. One of these events will be exclusively for leaving certificate students that have applied for Law at NUI Galway. I would appreciate greatly if you could inform students considering a career in law about the Supreme Court visit to NUI Galway and the possibility of participating in our event. I will be in touch in the New Year with details of the CAO event and a link for student registration. Places will be limited and on a first come basis. We have made a number of exciting changes to our undergraduate programmes, including the introduction of new programmes (Law (BCL) & Human Rights and Law & Business) and professional work placement in year three of our law degrees. If you have any queries with regard to our undergraduate law course please contact us at law@nuigalway.ie. You can also find a copy of our brochure on our website. Wishing you a nice break over the holidays and a peaceful and prosperous 2019. Charles Dr Charles O’Mahony Head of School School of Law NUI Galway greetings from the School of Law!
