Points fall as Round 2 offers are issued

Nursing, Engineering, Arts courses and more saw points fall as offers were issued.

Points fall as Round 2 offers are issued

The CAO Round Two offers were released at 10am today and 2,703 offers were issued in total. Many courses saw their minimum entry points drop as the offers were released, as is expected at the second round offer stage. However, some drops proved to be significant in certain subject areas and indicates a lower uptake of Round 1 offers for these courses.

Note: An "*" by a points score means that not all applicants on this score were awarded a place and candidates on the minimum score were chosen by random selection.

Nursing
Nursing courses were among those that saw points decrease across a number of higher education institutions. Points for Trinity College's various Nursing programmes fell across the board. Both UCC and DCU's Children and General Nursing courses experienced drops, while points for the same programme in UCD reduced by 13. The most dramatic drop in NUI Galway came with Mental Health Nursing which dropped by 14 points, while the same course in University of Limerick fell by 10. Points for LYIT's Nursing courses also experienced decreases.

Engineering
Certain strands of engineering saw points decreases in Round 2. IT Carlow's Civil Engineering course decreased considerably from 383 to 348, however, the institute's other engineering courses remained the same. UCC's general entry Engineering programme fell by 11 points to 465*, while general entry Engineering in TCD fell by 10 points to 487*.

Psychology and Applied Psychology
Points for Applied Psychology decreased in a number of HEIs. The UCC course fell by 14 points, while IADT's course experienced a 10 point decrease. In addition to these drops, psychology courses also saw points fall in a number of institutions. Dublin Business School's programme fell from 244 to 179, a drop of 65 points. Points for TCD's Psychology course fell by 10 points to 555*. Maynooth University's Psychology course also dropped slightly, with a decrease of 4 points (477 to 473).

French
Some business and law courses where French is a major component saw points drop too, while points for most other language options remained the same as in Round 1. TCD's Law and French course dropped from 543 to 532. UCC's Commerce (International) with French programme dropped by 14 points (423 to 409).

Health Sciences
Medicine courses saw few changes in points between Rounds 1 and 2. RCSI's Physiotherapy course dropped by 10 points to 532*. The college's Pharmacy course also fell by 10 points from 565 to 555*. TCD's Physiotherapy course fell by 9 points to 533*, and UCD's course fell by 5 points from 548 to 543.

Arts
Points for Arts courses dropped in a number of institutions. Carlow College's English and History programme dropped by 102 points. The college also offers a course in Social, Political and Community Studies and this saw points reduce from 276 to 146, a difference of 130. Arts courses experienced points reductions in other institutions around the country; in TCD Philosophy, English Studies, and Classics, Ancient History & Archaeology all dropped considerably.
