The Agoria Companies, a global publishing collective, has announced that it is to create 135 jobs in the Waterford area, where the giant has two offices, one in Portlaw and the other in Waterford City. This news comes as the group marks 20 years in Ireland, and the job creation serves as a testament to the success it has experienced in the South East region.
The majority of the 135 new members of the Agora Companies' Waterford workforce will be based at the technology services operation, Threefold Systems, in Confederation House, Waterford City. Many of the roles will be in software development, product, and UX. However, there will also be opportunities in digital publishing, as well as technical and customer support. The company currently employs 270 people in the region and the new jobs will make the Waterford offices the company's second largest location, after the company HQ in Baltimore, USA.
Bill Bonner, Founder of Agora Companies, alluded to the success the company has experienced in its first 20 years in Ireland. He said that "Ireland's South East has established itself as a strategic location for a number of multinational corporations", and commented on how the quality of life the region supports will enable it to continue to "capture talent from the capital".
Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland, welcomed the announcement and praised Agora Companies' commitment to Waterford. He added that the potential for global companies to thrive in regional locations was evidenced by the great success experienced by the publishing consortium. Minister of State for Training, Skills, Innovation, Research and Development, John Halligan TD, echoed this sentiment, reaffirming the potential for regional locations to attract top international companies.
