DkIT Launches Degree in Digital Marketing Communication and Public Relations
New programme commences in September and includes a semester-long industry work placement in year three
A new degree in Digital Marketing, Communication and Public Relations launches this September within the School of Business Studies and Humanities at Dundalk Institute of Technology and there is still time to apply through the CAO ‘Change of Mind’ option by 1st July.
CAO Code: DK712
The Level 7 programme has been produced in response to high demand from employers for graduates who are skilled in the rapidly evolving digital marketing sector.
Students can choose to graduate at the end of their third year or they can take one of two year-long Level 8 ‘add on’ opportunities which include a BA (Hons) in Public Relations or a BA (Hons) in Global Marketing.
The new degree, which will prepare students for direct employment within the marketing communications industry, has been welcomed as both timely and relevant by employers.
Speaking today, Andrina Coll of Elevate PR: said, “We’re always on the look-out for graduates who are ahead of the curve and a new, digitally-focused course like this will immediately set students apart from their peers.”
A key selling point of the new programme is the semester-long work placement in year three, which will give students a taste of life within this dynamic and expanding industry and will enable them to put their digital skills into practice.
Liz Englishby, programme lecturer at DkIT sees this as a core strength of the new degree, “We have very strong industry links through our work placement office here in DkIT that will enable our students to get real-world experience within their area of interest, something that will really stand to them as graduates.”
For DkIT’’s programme lecturer John Sisk, the degree has been developed at exactly the right time, “Large organisations are now integrating their marketing communcation functions. Our aim is to give our students the skillset to thrive in this new digital environment. The emphasis will be very much on real-life projects – live case studies, guest speakers and industry-related examples.”
