Posted on June 24, 2019

The BSc in Spatial Planning and Environmental Management (DT106) is a combined programme delivered by TU Dublin Environment & Planning, which offers choices and careers in addressing climate change issues.

After a common first year programme, students can choose between two streams in year two.

Those wishing to specialise in Environmental Management will take subjects like: Climate Systems, Conservation Management, Environmental Fieldwork, Rural Management Plans, and River Basin Management.

Or students can take the Spatial Planning stream, studying modules such as: Urban Design, Local Area Plans, Society and Governance, Heritage Appraisal and Development Management.

There are common modules throughout the programme for all students, including subjects like: Earth Sciences, Environmental Assessment, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Society and Environment, Settlement Analysis, Research Methods, European Field Trip and Dissertation.  Year four allows full specialisation in a chosen field, including the completion of a major research project.

The programme is highly internationalised.  TU Dublin Environment & Planning has education partnerships with the National University of Lesotho and the Gengdan Institute of Beijing University of Technology, where TU Dublin Environment & Planning staff are teaching best practices in sustainable planning to Chinese students.

Recently students have traveled on Erasmus exchanges to: Dundee (Scotland), HCU Hafencity (Germany), Melbourne (Australia), TU Dortmund (Germany), Tampere (Finland), Lyon (France) and others.  Students have also traveled to China to study at the Gengdan Institute of Beijing University of Technology.

The BSc in Spatial Planning and Environmental Management (DT106) programme is worth thinking about if you want a future career in addressing climate change and improving the environment.
