Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.

Undergraduate awards are awarded by the QQI, HEA or Higher Education Institutes.

3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.

This course will appeal to school leavers, mature students and to applicants who possess a FETAC level 5 award in a construction related skill area or equivalent. It is envisaged that students will be assisted in seeking employment on a full-time basis in a construction or engineering company and attend college one day week. A particular feature of the programme will include a “Work Related” learning component. The module aims to provide students with the opportunity to formally record and reflect on their experience in the workplace and undertake a work-related project.

Entry Requirements

  • Irish Leaving Certificate with passes in six subjects, including Mathematics and either Irish or English. At least two of the subjects must be at Grade C3 or higher on higher level papers or equivalent qualifications. Ideally applicants should be in appropriate employment within a construction related business.  
  • Applicants must submit their application direct to DIT and not through the CAO. 

OR

  • Applicants in possession of a QQI level 5 qualification in a related construction or engineering discipline.

OR

  • A mature student who is 23 years of age or older on the 1st January in the calendar year of proposed entry to an undergraduate programme.  Applicants must submit their application direct to DIT and not through the CAO. 

OR

  • Advanced applications to latter years of the programme will be considered for those applicants who already possess experience in the industry and/or possess a construction related undergraduate qualifications. Consideration for the particular year of entry will depend on the level of the programme qualification attained by the applicant ie Higher Certificate, Ordinary Degree and Honours Degree etc.
