Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction. We asked Joseph Conboy from Irish Tax Institute to give some advice for people considering this job: |

Every year we have a new Budget/Finance Act which introduces new tax law that we have to get on top off. Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).
Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.
Undergraduate awards are awarded by the QQI, HEA or Higher Education Institutes.
Career Opportunities
3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.

This course covers modules such as Construction Technology and Building Services which help students to appreciate how buildings are put together and subsequently operate.
This programme covers all of the areas of expertise needed including; cost planning and controlling of construction projects, estimating, procurement, tendering and contracts administrative processes.
In year 3 a four month work placement provides an opportunity for practical learning for each student.

Quantity Surveying offers a choice/ mix of office or site-based roles. Graduates find employment at a technical level with Professional Consultancy Practices, Building and Civil Engineering Contractors, a variety of Sub-Contracting specialists, Property Developers, Insurance Companies, Local Authorities, Government Departments, State/Semi-State Organisations, Utility Providers (i.e. ESB, Bord Gáis, Eircom etc) and Builders Suppliers.
