Careers rarely develop the way we plan them. Our career path often takes many twists and turns, with particular events, choices and people influencing our direction. We asked Justine McCosh from ESB to give some advice for people considering this job: |

| I think a degree or background in Finance is important. Work experience in the Finance Industry was useful for me to make the move between a banking role and moving to a Group Treasury role in a company, and most of my colleagues have also worked in Investment Banking prior to this. | |||||

Undergraduate awards typically reflect three to five years of study after secondary school and include Ordinary (Level 7) and Honours Bachelor Degrees and Higher Diplomas (Level 8's).
Undergraduate awards may be achieved directly or through a series of progression steps. Learners may choose to progress upwards from a Level 5 to a Level 6, Level 7 and finally a Level 8.
Undergraduate awards are awarded by the QQI, HEA or Higher Education Institutes.
Career Opportunities
3rd level Graduates are qualified for a wide range of occupations, and their education prepares them for roles involving specific skills, and for coordinating, supervising, managing, or training others. Examples include accountants, sales managers, computer programmers, teachers, chemists, environmental engineers, criminal investigators, and financial analysts.

This programme offers a 12 month work placement for students in year 3. The placement programme is organised by LIT and its industry partners.
Students will choose an elective module in year 4 from; Economics of Renewable & Energy Efficient Technologies, Financial Management, Facilities Management and Project Management for Quantity Surveying.
This programme is fully accredited by the Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS) in Ireland and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in the UK

There are growing demands for quantity surveying services in Ireland and internationally to achieve a more sustainable and economically efficient built environment, for example, the increasing export sector requires higher levels of sustainability and energy efficient manufacturing facilities, while the Government’s national programmes for improved energy and sustainability standards for our homes, public and commercial buildings all combine to create a demand for the specialist expertise of the quantity surveyor.
