Naturalist

Not surprisingly, some aspect of the natural sciences will run through the Naturalist's interests - from ecological awareness to nutrition and health. People with an interest in horticulture, land usage and farming (including fish) are Naturalists.

Some Naturalists focus on animals rather than plants, and may enjoy working with, training, caring for, or simply herding them. Other Naturalists will prefer working with the end result of nature's produce - the food produced from plants and animals. Naturalists like solving problems with solutions that show some sensitivity to the environmental impact of what they do. They like to see practical results and prefer action to talking and discussing.

Labour Market Information

With 167,600 persons employed in the 4th quarter of 2017 the education sector made up 7.5% of national employment. Employment rose by 20.6% between 2012 to 2017, meaning an additional 11,400 persons employed in the sector.

The National Skills Bulletin 2018 notes it is proving difficult to source qualified secondary teachers for certain key subjects (e.g. foreign languages, science). Changes in government policy in relation to the introduction of other subjects (such as career guidance) will require the sourcing of teachers with the required skills. Demand for secondary teachers is expected to continue in the near future as the population grows.
