There are thousands of security professionals in Ireland, operating in many different job roles. These include security guards, bouncers, hotel doormen, alarm and camera installers, locksmiths and private investigators.
As you can see from these job titles, there are a few different types of work you can find yourself doing. Maybe you’ll be working in securing one specific location, whether that’s determining who comes into and out of a nightclub or guarding a bank by monitoring surveillance cameras. Other jobs involve installing and maintaining security infrastructure, you might work as a technician for a company installing cameras or as a locksmith.
Almost everyone in security will need to maintain a minimum level of physical fitness. The work demands staff who can stay focused, are perceptive and can stay calm in stressful situations. Most security occupations now require recognition with the Private Security Authority (PSA). Obtaining a license will be dependent on meeting the training requirements for the specific profession you are entering.
