What are your interests?



Realists are usually interested in 'things' - such as buildings, mechanics, equipment, tools, electronics etc. Their primary focus is dealing with these - as in building, fixing, operating or designing them. Involvement in these areas leads to high manual skills, or a fine aptitude for practical design - as found in the various forms of engineering.

Realists like to find practical solutions to problems using tools, technology and skilled work. Realists usually prefer to be active in their work environment, often do most of their work alone, and enjoy taking decisive action with a minimum amount of discussion and paperwork.

Breda Wright is a Customer Care Manager with McDonald's Ireland working in a restaurant in Waterford.  She went back to work in McDonald's having stayed at home to rear her family.  She recently won a very prestigious City and Guilds award, one of only 4 awarded in the country.

What were the main 'career decision' milestones in your life so far?

Getting back out into the working environment after having a family and being a stay at home mother.

Who are the people who most influenced your career direction?

My family -  one of my family members has been working in McDonald's for a nunber of years and suggested that I should apply for a position there.  They were hiring so I filled in an application and it went from there.

How did you go about getting your current job?

My sister told me they were looking to fill a position and would I be interested.

Describe a typical day?

I start work at 8am in the morning to open the service for breakfast. I make sure we are set up for the day. After that I look after the service area and crew to make sure the customers are well looked after.

What are the main tasks and responsibilities?

Making sure we look after all our customers to ensure that they are provided with a warm friendly environment and good food.

What are the main challenges?

That all crew members follow all of McDonald's procedures at all times, to continue to maintain a high standard for all our customers and ensure that they are happy to come back.

What's cool?

What I find best is meeting and talking with people. I also like the fact that I have a lot of fun together with the people I work with.

What particular skills do you bring to your workplace?

I am also a Crew Trainer so I get to train new people who join us and follow up on our regular crew. I have a lot of patiences and am a very understanding person.

I left school early so my school subjects had little influence on my current job.

I attended secondary school but did not stay on until Leaving Cert.  I left school to work as a child minder which i really enjoyed.

I think my City and Guilds course has been very relevant and also the general life skills that you bring to a job having been a stay at home mother.

I am very orgainised person and patient.  I am a good listener and I also love meeting and talking with people.

I have done my Crew Trainer course, my BSM course and have also completed the "I can do programme". I hope to move on in my current position and train for Shift Manager and to continue to do further training after that.
