Linguistic

The Linguistic's interests are usually focused on ideas and information exchange. They tend to like reading a lot, and enjoy discussion about what has been said. Some will want to write about their own ideas and may follow a path towards journalism, story writing or editing. Others will develop skills in other languages, perhaps finding work as a translator or interpreter. Most Linguistic types will enjoy the opportunity to teach or instruct people in a topic they are interested in.

Chef - School Competition
The Apprentice Chef Programme

This school competition aims to steer students towards eating a healthier and more balanced diet that will improve their mental and physical health and to also promote the catering industry as a career choice. The programme is mentored by award winning chefs with many years experience. It is currently open to Munster schools only.

Placement Details

The Apprentice Chef challenge is for students to create a recipe for a dish using only fresh and local ingredients that represent good mood food.The initial screening will be made on written projects submitted to the students teacher. The qualifiers will then be assigned a mentor chef to help them develop their chosen dish.

They will then be required to prepare and cook their recipe for the Mentor Chefs who will offer mentoring,advice and encouragement beforehand for judging at a  ‘Cook-offs’ in the Institute of Technology Tralee and Institute of Technology Waterford. The successful applicants from each school will then proceed to the finale of The Apprentice Chef.

Objective:
To steer students towards eating a healthier and more balanced diet that will improve their mental and physical health and to also promote the catering industry as a career choice.

The Mentoring Process

The  selected schools will be invited to bring enthusiastic students to IT Tralee or I.T Waterford during October/November, where a series of workshops and demonstrations outlining the core objective of the project to clarify expectations.

The mentor chefs will be assigned schools each and they will mentor the student chefs via Gmail and Facebook to improve the original recipe.
Each school will nominate two pupils to go through to the initial cook-off at Tralee or Waterford.

The finalists will be invited to The Apprentice Chef finale in the Hotel, Culinary & Tourism Department in the IT,Tralee where they will produce their dishes for tasting and judging by a panel of independent judges.
