WIT is the major provider of higher education in the South East region of Ireland and one of the largest IOT's in Ireland. The Institute's range and scope reflect the changing needs of the southeast as well as the country as a whole.

The range of academic programmes is exceptionally extensive, ranging from Higher Certificate right through to post-doctoral research and covering the Humanities, Health and Nursing, Science and Informatics, Engineering and Architecture, Business and Education. 

Placement Details

The transition year programme run in the Department of Science allows the students to take part in a one week programme involving attendance and participation at a range of laboratory practicals covering a broad range of scientific disciplines.

We would cater for up to 30 students per annum (two per week). This affords the students the possibility of deciding on an area of science they would like to pursue as a future career, or alternatively decide on a discipline that best suits their particular attributes.

The programme routine covers the following areas:

  • Chemistry

  • Pharmaceutical science

  • Biology

  • Food science

  • Environmental science

  • Agriculture

  • Physics
